Three Things That Will Make Your Moving Process Less Stressful

Moving to a new home should be a fun and exciting time of your life, especially if you are moving cross-country. However, with all the things you need to take care of, the entire process can quickly become very stressful. Packing your belongings, hiring a moving company, and then unpacking and furnishing your new home is time-consuming and, unfortunately, stressful for most people.

So, if you don’t want to have a mental breakdown and you want to streamline your moving process, here are the three essential things you need to address before and during your moving process.

No matter if you are moving a couple of blocks away or cross-country, you need to take care of your utilities first. Things like electricity, heating, internet, phone, water, etc. need to be taken care of before you move to your new home. Otherwise, you might end up sitting in the candlelight with no water and heating.

Additionally, chances are that you will probably have to change your utility providers. This is most common with internet services. For example, if you are moving from Austin, where you used Google Fiber services, to New York, where this provider is not available, you will have to sign up to a different ISP. Fortunately, you can contact your new utility providers and arrange the exact date to turn on all of them so that by the time you arrive everything will be up and running.

Clean before furnishing

Next, you need to clean up your new place before you start unpacking and setting up the furniture. This is especially important if you did some renovation work in your new home. If you don’t polish your floors and clean every corner before you move in, you will have a much tougher time doing it once all the furniture is in place. Not to mention if you are moving into a house with a backyard. If that’s the case, you need to cut the grass, trim the bushes, and get rid of any junk the previous owners might have left behind.

Of course, if you are moving just down the block, you can go to your new place clean it up and then move in. However, the problem arises when you are relocating to another country or even continent. Luckily, in today’s world, you can do everything remotely. Even if you are moving from Vancouver, Canada to Sydney, Australia, you can find companies online that are offering professional junk removal in Sydney and arrange everything in a matter of minutes.

Set up the essentials first

Finally, don’t expect to nail everything on the first try. Completely settling into your new home takes time. So, in the beginning, you should focus on the essentials. Besides setting up your utilities, you need to take care of other crucial things. For example, you need a bed to sleep in, some pans and pots to prep your meals, dishes and utensils to eat with, cosmetics, tools for emergency repairs, and anything else that you find necessary. Unless you are moving all items from your old home, don’t expect to have every little thing right off the bat. You can slowly buy new stuff for the new place, but at the beginning focus on the things you can’t do without.

And that’s about it for today. Let’s make it clear, moving to a new place will not be an easy task, even if you hire a professional moving company. However, by following these three simple tips, you will have a much easier time making the transition. Of course, there are many more things you will need to take care of, but having lights, water, a clean house, and a bed to sleep in should always come first.
